“Top 10 eLearning Trends to Watch in 2017,” a post that Steve Penfold published on eLeaningindustry.com, is a very interesting read. He explains 10 trends that will impact on training and learning in the coming year. They include contextualized learning, video, better data integration, microlearning, and the use of two-way conversations.
Today on the Tortal Blog, we’d like to direct your attention to one of the trends that he believes will become more important in the coming year . . .
Content Curation
“Curation of content will be on the rise in 2017,” he writes. “Expect to see more carefully selected, user-focused eLearning content, including blogs, forum threads, guides, videos, and articles. This will help learning teams create a modern and holistic set of learning content delivered via designed content or multiple resources that don’t need to be made from scratch.”
That is another way of saying how effective it can be to enrich training with a varied library of resources for trainees, both during and after training. Here are some opportunities to integrate curated content into your training . . .
- Make videos part of your training – excellent, pertinent videos that teach skills and lessons.
- Ask trainees to read and discuss controversial, informative blog posts during training – and send trainees alerts post-training when posts appear that are worth reading. Consider setting up areas on your company intranet where employees can discuss them.
- Don’t shy away from giving reading assignments during training. Make your assigned reading stimulating, engaging or even controversial. Trainees can read and discuss them in breakout sessions while training is taking place, or read them as homework and discuss them on the next training day.
- Include interactive games and quizzes in your training. To learn more about gamification, we invite you to watch a recent webinar given by Dan Black, Tortal Training’s Vice President, Client Engagement.
As we close today’s post, we would like to ask you a question . . .
How will your training change in the coming year?
